Where does the time go when you are having fun. That is exactly what has been happening at Country Heritage Bed and Breakfast. Lacey decided to open a gift shop in the garage called The Giggling Goat.

Now I am guessing you are wondering where she got the name, right? Well we have two goats and they were the inspiration for the name. I am not sure they can giggle but they sure can be a pain on occasion. The last two nights the bigger goat (HotRod) decided to get his head stuck in the fence. Of course I had to come to the rescue. Apparently, he thought the grass was better on the other side.

If you would like to visit we would love to have you. Stay the night and enjoy a little bit of country and check out the store and the goats. Hope to see you soon

Well it has been quite awhile since I last did a blog. I am not sure where to begin or what to talk about as so many things are happening all at once at Country Heritage. I have decided that maybe I should do one at a time so that I don’t get confused.

Last fall we had a gentleman stop and he was wondering if we would be interested advertising with a group from Fairmont Mn. After spending an hour with him and learning what they were doing I decided why not. The great thing is that beside marketing the bed and breakfast they have built a webpage for Hampton. It is really a unique concept and just another great tool for us.

I am excited to say that they did a video of Country Heritage Bed and Breakfast and you may now view it on the Hampton webpage.

Check it out by clicking here http://www.ourstorymn.com/video/hidden-away,-not-forgotten-24/

In my last blog I mentioned how we were doing some home improvements in the house and so today I thought I would share a picture. This is a picture of the dining room when you first come in the front door. The new floor gives the room such a warm feeling and what better place to sit with family and friends then here at the table.

If you are wondering who picked out the flooring it was a family affair. Can you believe in the end we all agreed except for maybe Rex (my husband). He wanted more of a primitive barn type wood but he was out voted by Lacey and Ranae as they knew we needed to match the woodwork and of course I had the last say. Now I am trying to find a rug to go under the table. Not that it isn’t perfect the way it is but I believe a rug will just make it even better. What do you think? Would love your comments. I will share another picture when I find the right rug.

Well we have put the Christmas tree away but still have the lights up. I just can’t take the lights down. They are so pretty twinkling in the darkness and it makes the house seem so inviting. Crystal, Lacey, and I are excited about the coming year and the changes we have made. December was very quiet and so we did some home improvements.
We took out the green carpet and put in new flooring. All I can say is beautiful! As one thing leads to another we have done some painting and put in new flooring in the kitchen. Next we plan to put new flooring in the main floor bathroom and new plumbing.
Check back often as we have some exciting news we will be sharing soon.
Check out our Valentine Special on our home page.

Whatever you are doing I would like for you to take a moment and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Many years ago I saw a ceramic nativity scene and to this day that it the first thing that is setup in our home and the last to be taken down.
I have posted a picture of it so that all who see this post will take a moment to reflect what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. It is the Birth of Jesus not Santa that brings us together this holiday season.
Happy Birthday Jesus!

We have been busy decorating all of the rooms. There are trees everywhere. A big Thank You goes out to Ranae for making the outside look as beautiful as the inside. She loves to put up Christmas lights and so the whole month of November while it was still warm she did the outside. It is tradition that we turn them on the day after Thanksgiving. Anybody traveling Highway 3 will enjoy the soft twinkling lights as they go by.
Today was an extra special day as the whole family went to Church and then this afternoon Lacey and I went to hear the Messiah. We have a lot of very talented people in Franklin County! It truly tells the story of Christmas!
God Blessings to all and Merry Christmas from Donnis, Lacey, Crystal, Ranae, Rex, Blair, and Michael.

The Pueschel family has requested the following recipe. Most of our recipes are family secrets but since this family is so special and has become part of our family we are honoring their request. We serve this recipe often, especially when we have a full house. It is easy to make and taste so good!!!! We make it the night before and then bake it in the morning.

1 bag shredded hash browns spread in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.
Mix 8 eggs with 3 cups of milk. Add salt, pepper, and dry mustard. I don’t measure I just sprinkle
Pour mixture over hash browns
We use ham, but you can add whatever you want. Sometimes we will brown sausage, and add onions,
mushrooms, green or red peppers, bacon just to name a few.
Cheddar cheese 6 to 8 oz.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

If you would like to be part of our Family rent the whole house and have a great time at your home away from home. The Pueschel family did. The holidays are coming so give us a call (641-456-4036) or email us at countryheritagebb@hotmail.com and rent your holiday home.

Seven years ago I decided that I wanted to become an innkeeper and share our story and home to others. This weekend God showed me again why I made that decision seven years ago. This weekend we met new friends and tomorrow they will leave us but will never be forgotten.
From the time they stepped through the door I knew they were special. How often do you receive a hug by a complete stranger and it felt so right. They were here to visit family and it was a lot of fun watching them enjoy our home as their home. I especially had the honor to meet one of the strongest ladies and she will always be an inspiration to me even though I have only known her for three days. You see she has cancer and it is terminal and so she knows her time is short but that is not stopping her. As she explained she has her bucket list and she is making sure that each item is checked off. One of those items was staying at a bed and breakfast. Lacey, Crystal and I are glad that our bed and breakfast was the chosen one. Only I think she would tell you it did not feel like a bed and breakfast it felt like home. I never thought our home would remind people of the show ” The Waltons” but that is exactly how our guest felt this weekend. Tonight I said goodbye for now but I know that we will meet again.
Goodnight!!

We have redone the rooms in the house and now have limited seating available. So the question is, if we do brunch then we would have to have call ahead reservations, that way we know how many people and don’t have to have anyone waiting for seating.

Yesterday my grandson asked me the same question that many of you are probably asking WHY?
As he and I took a walk through the barn I tried to explain how it is no longer safe for him or anyone else. I showed him where they use to milk the cows so many years ago. Just standing there it was like I could see Ed and Ressie bringing in the cows. Michael then asked what is that and he was pointing to the steps that led to the hay mount. That is a huge space where they would put the hay. I could see he thought it would be a great place to play. I remember those days. I still am not sure how we all escaped with out breaking and arm or leg.
We have had many say why don’t you fix it up. If only it was that easy. Lacey and I wished we could but there is one little problem. The cost to bring it back to life is the reason we have made the decision to say goodbye.
Even though this is the End of an Era the memories will last a life time.
